Making your Home Sing Monday: Movie night

Movie night is one of the favorite things for us to do as a family. It brings us all together and it makes us stay there.

Sometimes it is easy to start reading books, finish one and then leave the girls with the rest of them. Ot start making a puzzle or playing a game and have to leave in the middle of the game to answer the phone or check something, never to come back.

How many mothers of teenagers have you heard say "One day you have your baby in your arms and suddlently you blink and they are all grown up".

It is hitting me too hard that the girls are growing up.

Noelia, my baby sits in the table while we are eating, telling us all she did in school and the conversations she had with her friends in school. And I look at her and all I can think is "when did she ever start talking?"
Kayla and Nicole, my two oldest, they read, they write, they make their beds better than I do, they help their youngest sister get dress, they set the table, pick it up..... And I look at them and all I can think is "wasn´t they born just yesterday?"

So today I am not blinking. I am headed off the candy store with them, and we are going to buy candies and pop corn, and we are going to have movie night. I have a great movie we have only watch once a long time ago, and I remember we all loved it. And we are coming back home and we are setting up the living room sofa´s and all our snacks, and we are all sitting down and we are going to have fun.

And I know the living room I just clean is going to look a mess when we are all done. But who cares, I can clean and blink tomorrow morning while they are in school.

That's also one of my favorite things to do with the kids, even when Nicolás always falls asleep!! LOL

As a mother of a teen and one young adult I can say that yes, they were just babies yesterday, lol!

When they were younger we chose Friday night as family night. We watched movies, played board games, went for a walk along the beach, etc. Inexpensive but fun.

Then they got older and busier. Now we don't have a regular family night but on Thursdays we are usually all home after 9:30 and we all will sit down and watch t.v. together.

Since it's a school night and the hour is late we don't really do anything else but at least we're together!

oh, and after your movie night you could do what we do: everybody brings up their popcorn bowl and glass and blankets and stuff and then it's all picked up so I don't have to do it.

Thanks for linking up today!

Oh, yes Pilar...don't blink to often, because it happens so quickly.

What a wonderful idea for you and your girls to share a day together...sounds like so much fun. Enjoy.

Oh Pilar, I am totally with you on these "babies" growing up! My oldest is in the youth group now! I keep reminding myself to treasure the moments! I'm glad you were able to do that today!

Oh, they grow WAY too fast! You blink and you miss it. I'm on #4 and I still wonder where the time went...

We love movie night here! Dad pops a big batch of popcorn and everyone piles into our bedroom on our bed and/or the floor with sleeping bags, pillows, etc. to watch. We have favorites we watch over and over or sometimes we get something new we've wanted to see. It's a wonderful family time.

I too love movie night. But sometimes afterwards...I wish we hadn't of watched what we watched. Kids movies are getting to be so crude. Often times I find myself wishing we'd of read a book out loud as a family or played a board game.....

although occasionally I can say, "Wow..that was a really good movie!"

Praise the Lord for those!

Great post Pilar, how true! They grow up so much faster then we expect and before long we look back and wonder where the time went. I'm at that very place now. My oldest is a Senior this year and my youngest is a tween. I can't even begin to remember all the years that led us to this place but we're here. They aren't babies any more but sometimes I wish they were. Enjoy it!

I had tears in my eyes on this one, Pilar. I have been feeling this way so much lately. They are getting so big. Isaiah is almost as tall as me and so grown up. When did it happen? Thankfully he still comes up and gives me big hugs! Michael, well, I keep pushing him to talk like a big boy and to take responsiblilty like an 8 year old trying hard not to baby him.. that I am not enjoying him like I should. Andrew is moving right along with Isaiah and I keep telling him just stay 9 for awhile ok.

I love it when we find a good movie and can laugh together! I feel like Nan though lately. It´s been so hard to find a good new one of any kind. So we are playing games more. but I was just thinking today that I want to spend more one on one with them and do what you said.. not blink, just enjoy.

Big hugs!!!

Good for you! I hope you guys had a wonderful day! Life does go by way too fast my friend. I look at my son and wonder where did the last 12 years go? I hope to make the most of the few remaining years that I have with him. Thanks for the great reminder!

What a great thing to do together! I think I'm inspired to do this with my girls.

You are so right that time passes quickly and we need to live in and enjoy the moments that we have right now.

I think I am going to not blink today too! I want to take in every minute! And take lots of mental pictures to remember with.
We love movie night too.
